Chardon Hisle, owner of Created By You has always been a friend of the brewery. We love working with and supporting other local businesses. Created By You is one of the many local artist we have partnered with over the years to bring cool events to the brewery for Winchester. We sat down with her ahead of this weekend Paints & Pints brunch event where you can sign up to customize your own beer mug. It will then be fired and your first fill is included in the price of the class. Bell On Wheels will be serving brunch 11:00-2:00.
TRM: Are you originally from Winchester?
CH: No, I’m not originally from Winchester or Kentucky. We moved here from Wyoming. However, I’ve been here long enough I need to say yes.
TRM: What first inspired you to get into art?
CH: I really don’t have artistic abilities, but I love to paint and craft. I find painting to be relaxing. When you are focused on the project in front of you, you’re not really thinking about the past or the future.
TRM: Did you go to school for the arts or did it start as a hobby?
CH: Prior to opening Created By You my friend and I would craft/paint items to be sold at craft fairs. We talked about opening a business. And eventually a hobby turned into something more.
TRM: Tell us more about Created By You.
CH: By You got its start from my husband’s grandmother. She had all the molds, paints, tools and kilns. She ran a traditional studio back in the day. One day a few years after receiving all of her ceramics we started making pieces, selling them at craft fairs to opening up a brick and mortar. Created By You has been open 11 years, 6 of those being in downtown Winchester. We are always looking to add new items to the studio.
TRM: Anything else you want readers to know about you or the studio?
CH: We teach classes on clay hand building and painting techniques. Created By You is open Tuesday-Friday Noon-7 and Saturday 11-6. Walk-in during business hours-no appointment necessary. We can host groups and parties, with some scheduling.
