About Us

We Open Our New 10,000 sq/ft Location In December 2021.

Abettor Brewing Company has been the cumulation of a five year journey by craft beer entrepreneur Tyler Montgomery.

Montgomery first contemplated the idea for a small brewery while working on his initial craft beer business, Brewer Magazine — an educational and business resource for craft brewery owners.

The early ideas for Abettor Brewing came to fruition as early as 2014 with the availability of the Sphar Building at the end of Main Street proper in Downtown Winchester. Early exploration of this property showcased a beautiful idea, but too much overhead for Montgomery’s vision.

In 2015 the City of Winchester decided to purchase the Sphar Building through grants. With multiple offices and retail outlets being discussed for the unique space, Abettor was back in the discussion as the focal point of the Sphar revitalization.

As with all plans, some things take more time than others, and as progress on the Sphar Building slowed towards the end of 2016, Montgomery started exploring the rest of Downtown Winchester and Clark County for options.

After almost two years of searching and scouring through almost every available building in Downtown Winchester, Montgomery was contacted by his neighbor who owned a small building on a direct thoroughfare into Winchester.

The opportunities this building at 301 W. Lexington Ave. presented were endless. Though small, it matched up with the idea for a nano brewery and community taproom.

The property for Abettor Brewing was closed on April of 2018 and took a year to completely renovate.

Abettor Brewing Company eventually opened to the city of Winchester, Clark County and surrounding counties on April 12, 2019. It has made a mark with unique beers from Montgomery’s homebrew experiences — its flagship resting on the brand “Pale8”, utilizing a favorite ingredient by Winchester locals and Central Kentuckians alike.

December 19th 2021 Abettor Brewing Company moved into a larger location at 128 North Highland Street, Winchester, KY 40391.
